About… us

Hi. Our names are Jon and Heather Mayers.

We’re originally from England, but now live in Zürich. It’s a beautiful city on a beautiful lake in a beautiful country, and people here are generally warm and polite; this more than makes up for the fact that pretty much everything except the air you breathe is eye-wateringly expensive compared to the rest of the world, except perhaps Norway.

At the time of writing this, I’m trying to work out what to do for my 50th birthday in October; my wife Heather is several years younger than me and in complete denial about the idea of being married to a 50-year-old. So basically, my birthday present to me is to be in the best shape of my life, by the time October 13th rolls around. Then she can quietly pretend I’m 40-something instead. Happy days.

Heather’s goal is to get back to the shape she was in before she had kids. She doesn’t like it when I remind her that she wasn’t happy about her shape at that time, either, despite the fact that I wasn’t able to take my eyes off her then or since.

Before we started this blog, Heather had just completed her first round of Insanity and I’d shadowed her workouts by hitting the gym at the same time. We haven’t been following the Insanity “Elite Nutrition” plan, but that’s all about to change; and although we can’t get the Shakeology mix outside the US (curse you, export restrictions!) we’ve found another protein shake that should do almost the same job; anyway it’s the overall nutrition plan that counts, not the label on the box, so hopefully we’re still in about the right place.

Hi. Found your blog on the English forum. Also in CH and am about to start Insanity on Saturday. I was wondering if you could advise what protein shake you guys have decided to use.

    1. Hi Tamarin,
I use “True MRP” as a meal replacement from http://www.myprotein.com; the vanilla flavour is nice, blends easily, great with bananas, strawberries, etc and also on its own. It’s 294 cals/sachet and 40g protein, plus a spectrum of vitamins & minerals.
You can order it online from Germany or the UK.
Good luck! Let us know how you get on – a workout buddy is the best way to stay honest, but a blog or a regular tweet also works.

Hi Jon, thanks for that info. This will be my 3rd attempt. First was 2 weeks, second time was 3 days. I will try and blog about it like I did the last 2 times, but its hard when you’re doing it on your own. That’s why I’m pleased to have found your site. It will hopefully keep me motivated. Good luck!
